This presentation is focused on providing insight into new applications for three new functional polymers developed and their applications in selective laser sintering (SLS).
PA 600-MAG is a nylon 12 highly filled with neodymium particles which can be magnetized and used as a permanent magnet to replace and improve many applications of conventional magnets by incorporating additive manufacturing’s capabilities (AM) into magnets. Potential areas of applications include microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), sensors, actuators and pain management devices.
PA 630-ESD is also a nylon 12 filled with fine conductive carbon particles which gives electrostatic dissipative (ESD) functionality and jet-black color to this polymer system. ESD capability of this material makes it suitable for use in electronic products and assembly fixtures for semiconductor industry.
PA 613-CFR is a filled nylon 12 polymer system as well, in which the filler is fine ceramic particles. This material was originally developed for fashion goods industry due to its smooth surface and higher weight that gives it a ceramic feel. The addition of ceramic filler also improved some of the mechanical properties of the material such as stiffness and heat deflection temperature (HDT).
