One of the biggest, longest-running challenges of industrial automation is the need to deliver higher performance with lower installation costs and maintenance requirements. EtherCAT P, one of the latest innovations from Beckhoff combines ultra-fast EtherCAT communication and power supply into one cable. By combining the previously separate power and communication lines, EtherCAT P not only reduces the cost of cabling and machine footprint size, but it also improves flexibility in I/O system topologies. Targeting another major cost center, this is a major step toward the era of automation systems without electrical cabinets.
Designed for industrial use, EtherCAT P goes far beyond the traditional power over Ethernet technology you may already be familiar with. With scalable voltages and standard industrial connectors, the technology can be used to connect motors, sensors and I/O components. Since this an open technology supported by the EtherCAT Technology Group just like EtherCAT, a wide range of EtherCAT P products that support the protocol can be connected to the same network. This presentation will give an educational overview of One Cable Automation and EtherCAT P technology, explaining how machine builders and machine users can create significant new process optimizations.
